I am going to prove your theory with this comment...

There was a while when your blog was quiet, so I'm happy to see you've been posting again.

Cyberspace needs a thought-provoking blog post or two, and they're not going to come from me, that's for sure : -)

Belated welcome back,
Amestress

when my kids were little I fully planned to home-school them as there were enough othes in the community who were also doing so, and as a community the resources and experiences could be expanded. Unfortunately, my health was already in the pre-MCS crash decline, but fortunately the local school in the area I moved to had a little alternative school in it (not that same as a US alt school) where they had 3 classrooms of mixed grades and interesting people. Until high school, my kids were in the alt school system where they had a far more inclusive and interesting education than in the regular system. One is now in U and the other dropped out of school but landed a decent paying job, and is thinking of getting into something more creative. I rambled off topic here.

The regular education system seems to cater to the lowest common denominator and to turn kids into consumers. Sad.

Amestress and linda, thanks for the comments :)

The alternative educational system is a place where interesting ideas are being tried out ... you can find some high-quality public schools these days, with a really different model of education.
